Kaitlyn and Sydney went to VBS this year, first year, and.... LOVED it!! Kaitlyn asked me why we hadn't gone before! I guess it's a must every year now!

Then we went to Disney World (the 4 of us)! What a extreme blast that was! The girls had SO much fun it was hard to contain themselves sometimes! Ken and I enjoyed seeing them so happy! The trip really brought the 4 of us back together as a family. It is hard sometimes taking care of Makenzie and trying to have fun sometimes. She can be a joy sometimes, but she can be something else sometimes too!

We also went camping at our property. It was SOOOOO HOT (somewhere in the 90s) we found the Pine River and dipped in and tubed down a small portion it. There is a very small place maintained by the state that has a port-a-potty and a place to put your tubes, canoes or kayaks in and it's on a bend. We put in on one side and would float for 10 minutes and reach the other side of the state owned 'park'. We had a blast even though the river was about FREEZING!! Ken's sister, Melynda and her family, were with us and everyone had a good time. Makenzie really likes the water, so even she had a good time.

Since we found a REALLY good babysitter (for Makenzie) this summer, we were able to go to Michigan's Adventure this summer! It was nice to reconnect like we did at Disney and go a few weeks before school started. That may need to be an annual event too!

Makenzie went to school this summer for 3 mornings a week, so the girls and I would head out on adventures that we couldn't do with Makenzie. We went to new parks around the area, bike rides and even got to run errands! We don't get to do those things very often AT ALL! It's not easy running in a few places when you have a wheelchair to get in and out each time and she doesn't always enjoy it either.

I did take all three girls to the zoo in August since we had a free pass. We stayed 2 hours and came home. The girls saw what they wanted to, we had a picnic lunch and as long as we kept moving, Makenzie was good.

I think that's about all for the summer, but it was very nice to enjoy a few things this year.

Here's a few pictures of our summer...
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; They had a great time with it. Sydney did well when she first started soccer last spring, but she's been playing the same sport for a year, so she got burnt out, but was sure excited when t-ball season started in April! Kaitlyn did VERY well in soccer this winter! She was really starting to excel a few weeks before the end of the season. Both coaches asked if she was playing in the spring, but we had to say no, since she was signed up for softball. She was sad to see the indoor soccer season end, but when softball season started after spring break in April, she started to enjoy ball. She has her really good days and her ok days with the sport, but when she gets the fire in her eyes, it's so fun to see her play. Sydney's league is like bumble t-ball. When the ball is hit, the whole team goes after the ball and even tackles each other sometimes. She is the only girl on her team, so it's fun to see her interact with the boys.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qt6Qu0YEoNY/Td06HoGxjPI/AAAAAAAAAEw/e2bRXw9rya8/s200/IMG_7879.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610704613472832754" /> <img style="float:left; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vY3MNNFoPKg/Td06ceqc2vI/AAAAAAAAAE4/sEd7cza60V8/s200/IMG_7821.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610704971715369714" />

Makenzie had a bad month between March and early April. She ended up in the hospital with pneumonia and RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus). It's a very serious infection when the kids are very young. She was in the ICU within 12 hours of admission and remained there until we went home 5 nights later. It was a hard time for our family, but she is SO much more healther now. She couldn't break the 24 lbs mark for over 6 months and now she's gained 2 pounds in 2 months!

Liz took Makenzie to the UofM pulmonologist at the end of May and was very happy with the visit. The pulmonologist was very interested in Makenzie and her history and was SO helpful. She has determined she either has 1. a hard time with her secretions (which we knew), or 2. she could possibly have asthma. She has a hard time breathing when she's sick and when she gets a cold, but she's fine in the summer with the warm/hot weather. We are going back to see them in December, hopefully when Makenzie gets sick for her first sickness next winter. She usually gets real sick around Thanksgiving, so we'll see. It will be very helpful for them to see her so sick, so they can make a proper judgment.

Ken and I are planning our trip to Disney in June. We will be going for a week a few weeks after the girls are done with school. Makenzie will be staying at Grandma's for the week.

Ken and I were able to get away early April to a wedding at Disney (in Florida as Sydney says, since she doesn't think we went to Disney). It was good for all 5 of us to seperate and get a break from each other. Grandma Theresa and Great Aunt Barb came to spend time with the three girls. They had fun too. One day they stayed in the PJs all day and the girls helped them prepare dinner a few times! It was exciting to see what adult life was like again. It had been a while. This was the first time we had gotten on a plane without kids since they've been born. This was the longest we had been away too!

Liz has been baking and decorating a few cakes in April and May! A few birthdays and first communions! She really enjoys making cakes for others. Let us know if you need a cake for a special occasion!
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nsgGDqpDelA/Td1A7sK_tSI/AAAAAAAAAFY/9XWAqpjgMVs/s200/IMG_7926.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610712104987243810" /> <img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bM2LAs4BsTU/Td1BOapaYdI/AAAAAAAAAFg/TFrMv9vZhpI/s200/IMG_7902.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610712426700497362" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ki5mmp1uB_w/Td069m_BdhI/AAAAAAAAAFA/UypjNGl9iLw/s200/IMG_7898.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610705540884821522" /> <img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k3dsWDgGUWI/Td08kupET5I/AAAAAAAAAFQ/Yqxr73qgQLo/s200/IMG_7909.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610707312466743186" />

Kaitlyn got glasses in April. She is really cute with them and she wears them all day at school and sometimes at home. They are really helping her in school. All her classmates are complimenting her and saying how nice she looks in them, so so far, so good. And did I mention she lost her first tooth (natually, anyway)
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uPZqAZUWl3w/Td1CBPwcPUI/AAAAAAAAAFo/IZCAygaPXoM/s200/IMG_7889.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610713299950517570" />

Liz's niece, Tess, got baptized in May and she became her godmother! It was a fun weekend and the girls were VERY good in church!
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LfD78_m1J7I/Td07vtKzLWI/AAAAAAAAAFI/AGVLBNgC2fg/s200/IMG_8030.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610706401538288994" />

Things are going ok here. Her teacher is a little more difficult than last year, but she's keeping up. She played soccer with the Walker rec league this past fall for the first time. She really enjoyed it, so she is now playing indoor soccer for the winter season. She is growing up so fast. She cares for Makenzie when Liz is out of the room or away for the moment.

Sydney is a little bored in Kindergarten. She is too smart for her own britches. She likes to see her friends and play on the playground, but of the academics are too easy for her. We have Mommy school when she is home on her off days. She enjoys that and of course our 'tea time'! I'm glad I have one on one time with her right now. I know I'm going to miss it next year. Sydney played soccer this past fall also, her second season. She is also playing indoor soccer this winter. She absolutely LOVES soccer!

Makenzie is enjoying her school finally! It took 6 weeks for her to get used to the routine. She rides the bus to and from school and mommy does not go with her. She cried everyday until week 7. Mommy cried for at least the first 2 weeks. It was very hard to see her get on the bus by herself and let her go. She has an aide on the bus that only watches after her, so that makes me feel comfortable about her going. She likes circle time and our swimming sessions! We are going swimming once a month at the Developmental school on the other side of town.

Ken is still working at Herman Miller and Liz is still a stay at home mom. We are doing ok. We try to get through everyday trying to care for all the girls and try to give them some kind of enjoyment. Some days are harder than others, but it helps to have the girls and sports.

Here's our Christmas pictures we sent out on our Christmas card...
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/TSJ8uw1ubOI/AAAAAAAAAEc/M5cyEYF9vnE/s200/IMG_7262.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5558142032954682594" />

Summer has begun!

Here we are in June and my last post was in the winter sometime. I was working at Meijer for a while doing some cake decorating and now I am doing it on my own as a business. Please let me know if anyone is interested in a cake of any kind...

Anyway, Makenzie continues to remain the same. We have 'taken a break' from feeding therapy. She had about 6 week 'cold' that wouldn't go away. She is still having vomiting issues, but a little less frequent. They were everyday 1-2 times a day from mid-April until the end of May. They are only happening every other/few days. We have changed formulas to a more protein based toddler formula. I am in constant contact with the neuro-developmental clinic in town. This is the place we visit every 6 months for a thorough exam of her cognitive, physical and nutritional overview. We usually meet with all varieties of doctors/nurses, ie nurse practioner, neuro doctor (specialist), nutritionist, physical therapist, occupational therapist and sometimes the social worker. They also have a speech path there too, but we haven't come that far yet.

Here is a picture of Makenzie on her specialized bike.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 134px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/TBmJxA44n3I/AAAAAAAAAD4/wWiV8M5VFew/s200/100_1188.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5483565496445476722" />Sorry, off on a tangent, but we did see the pediatric ophthamologist (eye dr) again in May. He did say her vision is improving still, but slowly. One eye is definitely better than the other (can't remember the numbers now and haven't received his report yet). He showed us the letter E on the chart on how big she is seeing things and one was about half the size of the other. Her eyes are still working one at a time, not together like most of ours do. No need for surgery at this point, and the patching didn't seem to work for her, so we have stopped for now. He doesn't need to see her for a whole year. We think he is waiting for her to improve neurologically (aren't we all).

Sydney was in her first organized sport this spring: soccer.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 134px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/TBmLdX_oVeI/AAAAAAAAAEA/tKfIYOftcWc/s200/100_1212.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5483567358073656802" /> Sydney will be starting Kindergarten in the fall at the 'new' elementary (same as Kaitlyn's school). They have made some changes to the school district here in Kenowa Hills and are closing Kaitlyn's current elementary, Walker Station, so they will be attending Central Elementary in the fall. Same distance from our house, just in a different direction. She is SO ready to start school, even though she will be 4 turning 5 in Oct. She is reading books now for over a year now and has discovered fluency. She is really sounding out words like you wouldn't believe. We check the 'easy reader books' out all the time and she is reading those mini books very well. We have flash cards for pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st grade and she has mastered the pre-K and almost all the Kindergarten words. It will be fun to see her attend Kindergarten in the fall. She will be going 2 full days and every other Friday.

Kaitlyn playing softball this year with the girls league...
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 134px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/TBmMpaM6egI/AAAAAAAAAEI/UT_AC4Oy17I/s200/IMG_6487.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5483568664336300546" /> Kaitlyn has completed the 1st grade and will be in 2nd grade at Central Elementary. She has done very well with her writing, reading and math this year. She had straight 1s (similar to As) last quarter and are expecting no less this last quarter. She is SO excited about learning about money and become a real reader this year. It's been fun watching her grow as a person and learning SO much this year. I was fortunate to volunteer with reading every other week this year and have noticed how the kids have changed as readers. Amazing the confidence they have.

Ken is still employed with Herman Miller in the IT dept. We have both taking up farming this year (just a garden really), but it's been fun already. We planted mid-May and we have already harvested lettuce and radishes. We have zucchini and cherry tomatoes on the vines already and are waiting for the many peppers and green beans to blossom.

Everyday is a new day for us, hoping we can get through and have a few smiles. We are enjoying the warm weather and hope to have many more this summer. Our small pool is still functioning and hope to for a few more years. The girls are getting big, so we'll see.

Looking forward to our vacation to NC to visit Daryl and family in early July (and hopefully Rene and family on the way home in KY).

Trying to keep up with this, so email me if you don't see a post in a while.

Take care.

Florida gifts for Kaitlyn's birthday

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/S_hcO-CEO9I/AAAAAAAAADo/FzNjogSB3Wo/s200/pictures+2010-03-18+029.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5474226759308426194" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/S_g8sX4tj_I/AAAAAAAAADI/unkf25w1yUU/s320/pictures+2010-03-18+014.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5474192080092631026" />

Thank you to the Zientek's and Grandma Greer for all the great gifts for Kaitlyn's birthday. In these pictures you will see the girls helping (and playing) with Makenzie as she opens her's. By the way, Saundra, Makenzie LOVES her yellow duck that quacks and Grandma's fishy that sings songs.

The dresses were a hit for Easter.... AND every Sunday we go to church. I can't get them to wear anything else.

Thank you, thank you...

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/S_g96RtCTvI/AAAAAAAAADQ/uuC1-oexc2Y/s200/pictures+2010-03-18+016.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5474193418462842610" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/S_hFvCIfQVI/AAAAAAAAADg/XFInZ6J9fI0/s200/pictures+2010-03-18+025.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5474202021397479762" />

So much has happened...

OK, so I'm not real good at keeping up the blog, but I am keeping up with my life as a stay at home mom. It has it's ups and downs, but we're making it work somehow...

MAKENZIE...
We did see the pediatric opthamologist (eye dr) the end of Jan and he gave us a good report. Her vision is obviously improving with her focusing farther and clearer. It has made her world a little easier to live in. She is less fussy with her eye sight improving. He said her vision is the equivalent to a one year old, but still has the nystagmous (jerkiness) and her eyes do not align. The alignment may take time or may need a surgery down the line, we will see.

Since her vision is improving there is not as much fussiness. She is aging too, which helps. She is more manageable as far as her mood, so let's hope this area keeps improving too.

She still needs work in head control, sitting, standing and walking, but we are working on all of these things. The playgroup we go to at her school really push us to help her try to do things on her own. We are even working on kneeing (which isn't easy for the spotter, let me tell you). We support her to sit by herself in front or on the side of us. She doesn't like it too much, only if Elmo or Sid the Scientist is on (PBS). She does like walking in the walker sometimes. She does this at school AND at her PT (physical therapy) appts.

She is still going to feeding therapy. Not much improvements, minor, but nothing outstanding. She only tolerates a few tastes at a time. She doesn't like much in her mouth as far as food or tastes go. She can only have real thick substances like baby food, pudding or yogurt.

Not alot of improvement only in the vision area at this point. They are telling me she is getting stronger in her trunk, so I hope she starts to have more head control and other things.

KAITLYN
Kaitlyn LOVES the first grade. Her teacher is really nice and really cares for all the kids. She is getting all 1s (highest mark)!!! She had a hard time with math in the beginning of the year, but is working right along now and her reading is getting SO much better. She is reading so fluently now! It's amazing what a year can do.

SYDNEY
Sydney LOVES her preschool class. She goes 3 mornings a week and absolutely LOVES going. She is a little ahead of her class. The teacher told us at the beginning of the year she would be ready for Kindergarten next year, so the two girls will probably go to the same school next year. We have yet to hear when Kindergarten round up is, but hopefully in April.

They are making some changes in our school district and will be closing Walker Station Elementary where Kaitlyn currently attends. They will be going to the 'Intermediate School' (which will be renamed to an elementary next year) which is the same distance from our house, just in the opposite direction.

That's all for now. Let me know if you want to hear about a specific event next time and I will try to include that in my next post.

Here's a few pictures at Christmas...
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/S2im2YoEdMI/AAAAAAAAAC4/ohMr6tu3KRI/s320/IMG_5707.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433776403676165314" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/S2in7EjHEyI/AAAAAAAAADA/HtF94XX3nH0/s320/IMG_5647.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433777583697629986" />

Happy Valentine's Day!

School Starts...

(Sorry this was supposed to be posted in early Sept)
The first day of 1st grade went VERY well. Kaitlyn was real excited when she got on the bus and even more when she returned home. She couldn't stop talking about her day. I like that they only have 1/2 day for the first day, so they ease into it. She will get her last nap for a while today (first day of school).

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/StzdMTSuo9I/AAAAAAAAACQ/hQyT3ishckE/s400/IMG_5133.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5394429657090008018" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/StzdL8eqqTI/AAAAAAAAACI/VT_5XqTIfWc/s400/IMG_5112.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5394429650966063410" />
Sydney was VERY excited as well. She went to school with Mommy the first day. It was 1/2 the time also.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/StzdNpWtlgI/AAAAAAAAACg/ZXcd4xbrrhc/s400/IMG_5157.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5394429680192165378" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/StzdNElE0fI/AAAAAAAAACY/9Yg5vJWMYuw/s400/IMG_5145.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5394429670320296434" />

As for Makenzie... she is doing about the same. The fussiness is starting to subside FINALLY! Did I write that in my last blog? Anyway, we went to see the Developmental Clinic in Mid-Aug. It wasn't as comprehensive as in April. The doctor said she thinks she will stand with some assistance. That was about the only good news. She will continue to be fed via G-tube and we will be changing the food when she turns one. It will still be liquid, but prescription instead of formula. She will probably not walk or talk :( so we keep trying to hold a little hope she will find some enjoyment in life. She LOVES her little room that the school system has provided. It's like she's playing with a friend. I will try and post a picture. For those of you that have seen it, we have a new and taller one. It's working wonderfully. She still doesn't have total head control, which is very hard. I have tried to think of a way to put her in a sling to carry her around, but at 18.5 lbs and being a 'floppy baby', it's very hard to come up with a way we will both be happy. All the advice I have gotten on that subject, they have just suggested I put her in the stroller. I have sat her up in the stroller more often, so she's not always laying down. It's just hard to think of new ideas of the everyday routine.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/StzfOchtzZI/AAAAAAAAACw/zbcPhgOucig/s320/IMG_5099.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5394431892951780754" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/StzfNxkmZOI/AAAAAAAAACo/OzG9aLhW7Lk/s320/IMG_5103.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5394431881421153506" />

I am starting a class!! Cake decorating! At least it will be time for myself and time for the kids with their dad, one on one. I have two birthdays to prepare for soon, so I thought this would be good.

Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts. Some good times, some not. Went to Traverse City/Ludington in hotels and not too bad, other than the bad weather. We did well at the Great Wolf Lodge since it was more of a resort where there was everything we needed under one roof with Meijer nearby. When we went to Ludington, we lost some of our ammenities and encountered bad weather (just cold for the beach and we were really looking forward to some beach time).

Camping at Otsego Lake near Gaylord, was not the best. The weather SUCKED! Ken and I were split up alot during the trip taking turns in the camper alot with Makenzie. We are done camping for a very long time. Change in weather is not a good thing. Thanks to my Aunt Sharon for the space heater. We wouldn't have stayed without it.

Early July we saw the eye doctor about Makenzie. We saw the VERY specialized doctor this time and to our surprise, he said her vision was improving! Here are some pretty amazing numbers, but instead of 20/2400 and 20/2700, her vision is now 20/400 and 20/700. Kind of crazy, but getting better. The jerkiness (nystagniod) is decreasing, but both eyes still turn in on their own. He said this will get better with time (hopefully).

As for Kaitlyn and Sydney, they have having a good summer. Nice to relax and not live the busy life (at least not every day). Our neighbor has been watching the girls while I take Makenzie to therapy each week, which has been a HUGE help. Thanks, Christine! She has taken them to the library, played cards and even the Wii! Kaitlyn is nervous about going to first grade. Different teacher, different kids and ALL DAY, EVERY DAY. Lots of changes, but the same school (Walker Station). Sydney will be in preschool again this year at Zinser. She is NOT nervous (at least not yet), but she knows she has the same teacher. We go for orientation for both of them in two weeks. It will help to get them out of the house and learning on a regular basis again. We have Mommy school at home at least 2-3 times a week. We do workbooks, work on numbers, sing ABCs, etc to keep their minds working. I think we're going to work on money with Kaitlyn before school starts.

As far as Ken and I, we are hanging in. Living day to day. Keeping up with the housework isn't always easy, but the girls are starting to help out! We created a chore list and some are optional and some are mandatory everyday. They are doing quite well for the first few days. They are actually pretty excited about getting stickers and working toward a prize. We'll see how long it lasts. Sorry, tangent...

Ken is still with Herman Miller, working hard on a project. They approved his new project a few weeks ago, so he's pretty happy about it. The downfall is he might have to travel in the fall :( We'll see how much. I might be calling for help if he is overnight for more than two nights. We'll see how the daily routine goes.

Went to the beach with my sister, Kele, and my dad last week. Here's a pic... (Millenium Park, great place for kids!)

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/SoDRA2Ix07I/AAAAAAAAAB4/PSvffZpvcys/s400/100_0157.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5368520568288170930" />

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/SoDReBsdOAI/AAAAAAAAACA/6C72qZjjhxU/s400/100_0164.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5368521069606811650" />

Leave me a comment on what you want to hear about or if I'm covering everything. It was good the girls were in school then. It's a whole different story now that it's summertime...

Things are going well for Kaitlyn and Sydney. They love our little 3ft pool in the backyard and all the sun God is finally providing us with after such a LONG winter. Makenzie is pretty much maintaining where she has been for a while. She is still take a drop of baby food about every min. She did take about 1/2 oz of baby food at feeding therapy a few weeks ago. She did well in PT today with a sub Physical therapist. She really worked her on the exercise ball today, gave me a few ideas to do at home to get her muscles working and rolling over.

We did however have a visit to the Developmental Clinic attached to Spectrum Health in mid-April. The appt seemed to be going to well for the first 2 hours until they asked us if we had any questions. We asked if she would ever walk one day.... they're response was.. I don't think so. Would she ever talk... I don't think so. That was a VERY hard day. We kept our distance from alot of people for a while and that's why I haven't posted in a while. The news was just too hard to handle for a while. Ken and I are coming to acceptance with the facts and trying to keep the emotions on low. It's very hard to be on the emotional roller coaster for so long. We are just going to keep doing what we're doing everyday and wait until she's between 2-3 years old to see where she's at. They say we will have a better idea at that age.

Makenzie is 9 months old and still being fed by G-tube. She doesn't sit up on her own and is still having issues with head control. We're working on rolling over, sitting up and standing (on occasion). I work with her everyday with various therapies. My day is full with three kids, meals, workbooks and all the demands at ages 6, 3.5 and 9 months. Ken is being very supportive with everything and is a good sounding board when I need it. He is still holding strong at Herman Miller with every other Friday off.

We are planning a vacation here in a few weeks to Traverse city and Ludington. It will be nice to get away from the house for a while. I hope Makenzie does ok.

I will try to have pictures next time. Posting kind of late, but I promised by the end of June and I only have a few hours left.

Until next time...

Appointments Galore, week of March 30

Monday, March 30 - Eye Doctor (Peters)
We went to the eye doctor for Makenzie last Monday, March 30. Her sight is equivalent to a 1-2 month old, so good and bad there. She's improving, just at a very slow pace. She is seeing more than just red, and B&W. She was only seeing these two combinations for a while, but she's seeing most dark/primary colors now. She does recognize when people come into the room and turns her head in that direction (same with sounds). They predict she will have functional eye sight, which includes seeing objects. They are making a hypothesis at this point since she's so young, we will know more when she's between 2-3 years of age. We will continue to see the eye doctor every few months.

Tuesday, March 31 - Pediatrician
Makenzie is 16lb 1oz (50%), 26.5 in (75%) and 10% for head circumference. She is doing better, but growing at an ok rate for now. She got 3 out of 4 of her 6 mo shots and has slept alot and when awake been fussy since then. Hopefully it will wear off soon.
Kaitlyn was in the greatest mood when we went to the dr. She had her annual checkup, but no shots since she chose to have them at 4.5 yrs. She was laughing 90% of the time she was being examined. I think we will request this new pediatrician when we got back for the girls. Kaitlyn is average for height and 75% for her weight. She is growing a great rate for her age.
Sydney was at preschool when we went to the doctor. She's not due for another check up until she's 4 (Oct).

Wed, April 1 - Neurologist (VanDyke)
The neurologist was happy to see her eye sight improving. That was encouraging. He is expecting her arms to gain strength. Her arms right now are still acting as if she is a newborn. She doesn't bring them into her midline very often, but we work on it every day. We play games and sing songs, so we're hoping someday soon. I put her hand up to her mouth yesterday and she was excited to discover her fingers. We tried it a few times and she was chomping on her hand everytime. Maybe this will help in bringing her arms up to her face and to her midline. Her arms are still stiff, so I'm trying everything. The main thing coming out of this appt was his comment about her being disabled. We know that she will have multiple disabilities, we just won't know how severe until 2-3 years of age. As they say... only time will tell.

Thurs, April 2 - weekly physical (PT) and feeding therapist (OT)
PT - Beth commented on how Makenzie has done well the last two weeks. You can tell she's fussing because she's tired, not just to fuss. She tried baby push ups with her this time. Very interesting, but I think it will help with her head control, arm strength and keeping in mid-line. She practiced her rolling on a decline. Makenzie was very fussy, but she worked hard. Her eye sight is helping with her physical therapy.
OT - Sarah also commented on how Makenzie is doing well this time and last time. We tried a different flavor with her this week. She didn't seem here or there about it, but she did take the 'thickened cranberry juice' a few times. I have tried the same flavor everyday since last Thursday and she's doing good. Sarah said we can try formula too, so we'll try that sometime too.

Long update, but thought I'd fill you in. Let me know if you have any suggestions on what you have experienced in therapy or heard from someone that has. Sometimes simple suggestions make a world of difference.

Next Monday, April 13 - developmental specialist (Burdo-Hartman)

Have a great Easter everyone!

Kaitlyn turns 6!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/Sb7uf1xCOgI/AAAAAAAAABw/Eyat8iC7MsM/s200/IMG_4208.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5313946841119865346" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/Sb7t_xqDWQI/AAAAAAAAABo/q8tDOWipkbQ/s200/IMG_4154.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5313946290261022978" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Vc6CvxCCfNQ/Sb7rA7njGKI/AAAAAAAAABg/GlRP_9_wex0/s200/IMG_4162.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5313943011579861154" />Kaitlyn turned 6 on March 6! The pictures are from a party we had for her where we invited the kindergartners from the neighborhood along with their siblings. We had a blowup playground, pinata and cake! What a great time! (I need some advice on posting pictures...)

For those of you that have been following the blog...
We made the trip to SE MI for the funeral. It was quite a trip, but we made it with some help from the family. I couldn't have done it without help that's for sure. It was a tough trip both physically and emotionally, but much needed. Makenzie was blessed along with her cousin Becky (while we were there) from the pastor after the luncheon. Thank you, Aunt Barb.

News on Makenzie...
Makenzie had an EEG a few weeks ago and is NOT having seizures! One less thing to worry about. We also had a vision consultant come in last week and had alot of good things to say about Makenzie's eyes. She is doing MUCH better than last Dec when the eye doctor saw her. She is focusing better and tracking other colors than red. Red and contrast colors (ie black and white) are the first colors you see, so she's at least progressing. She is tracking side to side AND up and down. She was not doing this a few months ago. The vision consultant gave us alot of tips on how to work with her, so we will be trying all kinds of things with her. The things they come up with amazes me. I was just happy to get some good news about Makenzie. It felt so good to hear she could tell I was working with her, it reconfirmed I made the right choice about deciding to stay home with her full time.

Tastes are yummy!

Makenzie is learning to take a little something from the spoon! It's a drop at a time, but it's a step in the right direction. We had a good session yesterday sitting up in an upright position (which doesn't happen too often). Her vision is getting better everyday and tummy time is getting better too. These are all the successes in the last few weeks. She is becoming less irritable and more calm everyday, but it takes alot of therapy (hence the stay at home mommy career change). We are hoping everyday the next few doctors appointments are more positive, so we'll see.

Kaitlyn turns 6 tomorrow (Fri)! She's going to 6 on March 6! She's pretty excited!

We're going to try and take a trip down to SE Michigan tonight, just me and the 3 girls. My uncle passed away and the funeral is tomorrow. If Makenzie doesn't get better this afternoon, we won't be going, so we'll see. Wish me luck if we do venture out.

Thanks for checking in. I'll try to have a new pic next time. It's the only picture I have with all three girls. Everyone keeps asking me for a picture, so this is it for now.

I am officially unemployed. Feels weird sometimes, but I am definitely needed at home with the demands of therapy and constant care Makenzie needs. I will also be having Sydney full time in about a week. She will be attending preschool through the school system this fall when Kaitlyn goes to first grade. I'll be glad when it's nice outside. The nice weather can't come soon enough.

Anyway, thanks to all of you that helped us in all kinds of ways. We have so many people to thank, where do I start? We have really gotten to know our church family and everyone's been a great support. Meals have been provided along with people's time and we really appreciate it! My family has been great coming up to pitch in too. Ken's mom was able to stay with us for a while right after Makenzie was born until it was time for her to go to Florida. Our neighbors have also helped us with babysitting and meals. We also appreciate everyone attributing to Makenzie's account (Greer Family Fund). It will definitely come in handy when she is able to attend special therapy sessions that aren't covered by insurance. Ken's work (Herman Miller) created the account when they did a benefit for Makenzie a month after she was born. My work (Wolverine) has also supported us through our rough time. We have friends far and wide that have sent meals, so THANK YOU EVERYONE!!

I am just starting to feel more like a normal person now. I only have a few times during the week where I need to rest instead of every 5 min everyday. I would not be where I am today without the support of my dear husband, family and church family. Thank you for helping us out, so I didn't put so much strain on myself.

Kaitlyn and Sydney have adjusted well since my surgery. They are doing well and look forward to staying home with Mommy. We are keeping up with Kaitlyn's homework and reading and Sydney is working on her workbooks. Makenzie has her exercises everyday too.

That's all for now! See you here next week!

Welcome to my first blog!

Our family has been blessed with three girls. As some of you know our newest addition, Makenzie, was born in late Sept with many complications. She suffered oxygen loss which has caused her to have severe and multiple impairments which impact her vision, sucking reflex, coordination of her limbs, and her future development. Since I will be unemployed tomorrow, I thought I'd start a communication link to all that care to check in... I will try to post an update once a week, but please forgive me if I don't.
